About the Madrid Marathon

Since its inception in 1978, the Madrid Marathon has become the most anticipated sporting event in the city. Everybody, from businesses to everyday people, come to support those participating and to join in on all of the festivities provided.

Runners and spectators alike are welcomed to all events including the EXPODEPORT, which is held at the Feria del Corredor. The expos main focus is to prepare runners for their race ahead however most sponsors have a stall full of goodies for all. The pre-race Pasta Party is held the Saturday before the race at the Pabellon XI for runners and their families and friends.

Compared to other marathons the Madrid marathon has a more serious tone that is focused on the ever changing evolution of the city. This year, the marathon seeks to bring about the importance of recycling to the Madrid community. all along the route, which begins at Paseo de Recoletos and ends at Paseo Duque de Fernan Nunez, will have events and bins to promote recycling.

Those looking to register for this most esteemed marathon may apply in person at MAPOMA (see phone number above), or by fax (see number above) or by web. Fees for Spain residents are 40EUR, non-residents are 55EUR and MAPOMA members are free. Each year about 6,000 runners are accepted to race and advice is given out on preparation for the marathon for free on the website.
